This is partially to encourage environmental conservation and partially to discourage third party remanufacturers from profiting off of their products. As a result these companies make it easy for individuals to either mail back or drop off their cartridges once they are empty. In fact, many companies include a prepaid return envelope with toner purchases to make it very quick and easy to send them back.
Going to the third parties is another option that is available to you, since these organizations are just as happy to buy the brand name cartridges as the original manufacturer is. If you set aside several empty cartridges as you use them many of these independent toner recycling companies will come and collect them after they have accumulated a certain amount. In this case all you need to do is set aside your old cartridges and place a phone call, and your organization not only gets rid of its old cartridges and promotes environmentalism, but it can also get a little extra money from the sale of the old cartridges.
